Libertyville, Illinois hospital avoids False Claims Act suit with voluntary settlement

Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois has agreed to make restitution to the federal government for improper payments to the hospital from federal health insurance programs. For five years or more, the 283-bed Condell facility made improper loans to physicians, entered into leases with doctors that were below fair market value and made payments to doctors who treated patients without the required written agreements.

False Claims Act recoveries exceed $1.3 billion in 2008

The Justice Department has announced that in fiscal year 2008 alone, it has recovered over $1.3 billion from contracting fraud cases filed under the federal False Claims Act. According to DOJ, the government has recovered $21 billion from civil fraud suits filed under the Act since the statute was strengthened in 1986.

Eight Long Island medical providers overbill New York's health care system

A recent statewide audit has uncovered twenty New York health care providers that routinely inflate claims for reimbursement made to the state. Eight of those are in Long Island. The practice has cost the state millions of dollars.

Baron & Budd, P.C. Announces New Insurance Claims Practice to Aid Hurricane Victims

Dallas, TX (December 22, 2008) Dallas-based law firm Baron & Budd, P.C., recently named to the National Law Journal’s “Plaintiff’s Hot List,” announced today the creation of a dedicated insurance claims practice to be headed by shareholder Bruce Steckler.
